This programme is for early career researchers who wish to conduct research in Japan.

Candidates from all fields of the humanities and social sciences are eligible to apply.

This programme is providing pump priming funding to seed collaborations for applications to specific Horizon Europe topics in Pillar 2. The aim is to build collaborative activity between UK and EU/Associated Countries’ entities in Pillar 2 where the major consortia building type of applications in Horizon Europe are centred.

The Fellowships are for senior researchers who have retired or partially retired from an academic post to complete a research project and prepare the results for publication.

Research Fellowships are open to experienced researchers, particularly those who are or have been prevented by routine duties from completing a programme of original research. The Leverhulme Centenary Doctoral Scholarships will open in November 2025 for submission in March 2026. While the scheme requirements remain largely as set out for the 2023 round, this round includes additional studentships, as well as funding for postdoctoral opportunities and programme administration costs.

The British Academy/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowships are intended to enable established scholars, needing relief from teaching and administration, to have the time to bring to completion a significant piece of research, through sustained period of leave for one year.

A nine month programme aimed at fostering the development of new research initiatives while supporting the career progression of ECRs.

The Leverhulme Trust Board has announced funding of an additional £3.35 million in the Early Career Fellowship scheme.

From 2026, the scheme will see a reduction in the contribution required by universities. The Trust will fully fund the first year of fellowships, with match funding in years two and three.

The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. These awards, up to £10,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project.
