PGR Writing Retreat

The SLSA, the Dutch-Flemish Law and Society Association (VSR) and the Netherlands Academy for Empirical Legal Studies (ELS) are delighted to invite applications for a PhD writing retreat taking place from 18–21 November 2025 at the beautiful Drongen Abbey, just outside Ghent, Belgium (www.oudeabdij.be).

This in-person retreat, generously funded by the ELS, is designed to support late-stage PhD researchers in the final writing-up phase of their doctorate. It offers dedicated time and space for focused writing, peer feedback, informal discussion and networking, all within a peaceful, monastic environment.

There are 10 places available, with 5 reserved for SLSA postgraduate researchers. Accommodation and meals are fully covered for all participants. While attendees must arrange their own travel, the 5 selected SLSA participants will each receive a modest travel bursary of up to £100 to help with travel costs.
