EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY

The SLSA is committed to the values of equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) and strives to ensure these principles are reflected in its policy, practice and governance.  The SLSA understands these values to be integral to the advancement of research, teaching and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of socio-legal studies. Therefore the SLSA is committed to opposing discrimination and to striving for equity and diversity on the basis of gender, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, race, nationality, age, religion, disability, mental health status, marital status, family responsibility, and class.

EDI STRATEGY

The SLSA seeks to lead the development of best practice in our EDI work and we look forward to actively engaging with other bodies and organisations to identify initiatives that can help us realise our goals. We welcome dialogue, suggestions and feedback from our members as we celebrate our diversity and strengths as an association and continue to work together to construct a more welcoming, inclusive, diverse SLSA and equal socio-legal community. The work is led by our EDI Committee.

Our first membership survey was conducted in 2021 and the report was published in March 2022: SLSA Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Survey Report and our follow-up Strategic Response Document was published in 2024. We also have an EDI Policy.

SLSA Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Survey Report 2025

In line with a commitment we made in 2021 to collect additional data at regular intervals, we launched our second EDI survey in October 2024. It closed on 13 December 2024. Many thanks to all those who took part.

This report presents the results and analysis of the survey responses and plans for taking our EDI strategy forward based on member input. We welcome additional feedback from, and dialogue with our members, and look forward to working together to build an ever more diverse and inclusive socio-legal community.
