Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research

Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling

The Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR) is a research partnership led by the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, in alliance with other Scottish universities.

SCCJR pursues a mix of theoretical, policy-related and intervention-based research, engaging with international debates in criminology and criminal justice. Researchers undertake programmes of multidisciplinary research in a range of criminology and criminal justice research areas, including: the inter-relationship between crime and offending and the communities within which this takes place; violence and risk; modes of governance and regulation of these processes and practices; youth justice and young offenders; desistance from crime; sentencing; gendered violence; the evaluation of criminal justice interventions; and research on structures and processes in the administration of criminal justice. SCCJR has expertise in large-scale survey methodology, quantitative statistical analysis and complex data modelling and has an interest in capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the development of applied expertise through postgraduate education and professional training. SCCJR’s work is supported by a pool of advisors drawn from academia, the criminal justice policy community, criminal justice statutory agencies (police, prisons, courts, social work), and the voluntary and private sectors which are increasingly involved in the prevention of crime and delivery of criminal justice.
